A Psalm for the Wild-Built (Monk & Robot, #1)

By: Becky Chambers - Read: December 8, 2023 - Rating: 8/10

Imagine the robots have left the humans to search for their meaning — their purpose in life — which they’ve found as exploring the world. Humans agreed and robots left for wilderness, never to return. Two centuries later when the history has been reduced to mythology, a monk meets a robot who wants to know “what do humans want?”.

Unfortunately, the monk doesn’t know what they want. It varies by when you ask the question through the day, and what day. The robot realizes the complexity and they have deep conversations on what is the difference between “purpose” and “wants”.

After a long time, a Sci-Fi felt heart warming and not another apocalyptic experience. This is definitely the fastest book I’ve read. 60% in morning, 30% in evening, 10% before bed.
